What is a 16-17 Saver?
A 16-17 Saver is a Railcard that makes train travel cheaper for young adults with up to 50% off the full price of a train ticket or Season ticket. You can use a 16-17 Saver on Standard Anytime, Off-Peak, Super Off-Peak and Advance tickets throughout Britain (excluding ScotRail and Caledonian Sleeper services).
How much is a 16-17 Saver?
Like other Railcards, the 16-17 Saver costs £30 and is valid for 12 months or until the holder's 18th birthday, whichever comes first.
If you buy a discounted Season ticket before your Railcard expires, you can keep using your discounted Season ticket for up to four months after the expiry. The two expiry dates are shown on your Railcard.
Who can use a 16-17 Saver?
Anyone aged 16-17 can use a 16-17 Saver Railcard.
When can I use a 16-17 Saver?
A 16-17 Saver Railcard can be used at any time for Standard Peak tickets and Off-Peak travel in England and Wales. There is no minimum fare for travel during Peak times, like some other Railcards.
You can't use a 16-17 Saver Railcard on ScotRail, Caledonian Sleeper, or Eurostar services, or on First Class tickets.
How to buy and use your digital 16-17 Railcard
You'll need to have iOS 15.0 and above or Lollipop on Android to get your digital 16-17 Saver Railcard on your phone. Don’t have our app yet? Download it now and follow these easy steps to buy your Railcard today with us.

Enter your first and last name (and date of birth if you need to prove your age)

Upload a digital passport-style photo for your Railcard from your phone

Sign in to your Trainline account on the app and buy your digital Railcard

You’ll find your new Railcard under 'Railcards' in the Account tab of the app. Please make sure you're signed into the app with the same account you used to buy your Railcard

Enter your departure and arrival station, select the start date of your ticket and the number of people travelling, then select your new Railcard from the drop-down menu – the 1/3 savings will be applied automatically to your booking.
