About this ebook

NOW THE ACCLAIMED HBO SERIESĀ GAME OF THRONESā€”THE MASTERPIECE THAT BECAME A CULTURAL PHENOMENON
Ā
Winter is coming. Such is the stern motto of House Stark, the northernmost of the fiefdoms that owe allegiance to King Robert Baratheon in far-off Kingā€™s Landing. There Eddard Stark of Winterfell rules in Robertā€™s name. There his family dwells in peace and comfort: his proud wife, Catelyn; his sons Robb, Brandon, and Rickon; his daughters Sansa and Arya; and his bastard son, Jon Snow. Far to the north, behind the towering Wall, lie savage Wildings and worseā€”unnatural things relegated to myth during the centuries-long summer, but proving all too real and all too deadly in the turning of the season.
Ā
Yet a more immediate threat lurks to the south, where Jon Arryn, the Hand of the King, has died under mysterious circumstances. Now Robert is riding north to Winterfell, bringing his queen, the lovely but cold Cersei, his son, the cruel, vainglorious Prince Joffrey, and the queenā€™s brothers Jaime and Tyrion of the powerful and wealthy House Lannisterā€”the first a swordsman without equal, the second a dwarf whose stunted stature belies a brilliant mind. All are heading for Winterfell and a fateful encounter that will change the course of kingdoms.
Ā
Meanwhile, across the Narrow Sea, Prince Viserys, heir of the fallen House Targaryen, which once ruled all of Westeros, schemes to reclaim the throne with an army of barbarian Dothrakiā€”whose loyalty he will purchase in the only coin left to him: his beautiful yet innocent sister, Daenerys.

Love both versions for their own reasons but they are almost 2 different stories with some similarities. It's like any Robin Hood story that no 2 are a like but with few similarities. This version of the story is worth every page with characters you care about while others you patiently wait for that satisfying moment. It still leaves you wondering what if the story was written that way on purpose leaving little room for the antagonist.

I must admit, just started reading the books after seeing the TV show. These books are awesome, engaging, and keep you reading until you've realized how many hours you've been turning pages. Let me go on. If I read another comparison between this and Lord of the Rings I'm throwing my tablet against the wall. The writing styles between the two are so different. I'm a huge Lotrs fan but let's be honest, if you've read the book you know it drags on and on and on and there is song after song... Game of Thrones is not like that. So in conclusion, if you need something exciting to get you reading again, and you enjoy the whole medieval fantasy type genre, this is a great start. But be warned, there is no set protagonist to fall in love with, just many characters to explore and discover where they end up.

Haven't seen the show so this is solely about the book. It's very engaging and keeps you wanting to turn the page. However, there are definitely parts that could have been left out for the sake of length. A couple of examples, the book has so many characters and most of them are unimportant to the plot, Martin just loves to put a name to everyone. He also gets extremely into tedious details. Many times when I find myself in a section with a list of names or details I'll just scan to where the story picks up again. These aren't egregious errors but just bad enough keep me from rating this higher. Still, a solid book and worth the read.
