Cat Recipe: Kitty Fish Cakes

Pancakes might be a favorite breakfast-time treat for you, but they aren’t a good option for our meat-loving cats. So, we teamed up with Lisa Hennessy, of Your Pet Chef, to come up with a healthy and delicious fish-cakes recipe for your feline friends.

This simple homemade option combines a dose of tuna with some flax seed and Spanish olives for an extra-special treat.

Equipment needed: Can opener, spoon, measuring spoons, cupcake mold, food processor, plastic bags or containers to store food

Ingredients:

Ingredients for kitty fish cakes

  • 2 cans tuna in water
  • 1 egg
  • 3 tsp. flax seed
  • 3 stuffed Spanish olives

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Drain water from tuna and add all ingredients to food processor. Puree until smooth and slightly lumpy.

Spoon into greased cupcake molds and bake for 40-45 minutes.

Allow to cool and serve.

These kitty fish cakes be stored in a plastic bag in the refrigerator or can be frozen. They will last about a week in the refrigerator or 3 months in the freezer.

Cat tries a kitty fish cake

There aren’t many cats that don’t enjoy a healthy dose of tuna, and our feline taste tester was no different. The snacks were a tad big, so we broke them into tinier pieces, which made it easier for them to nibble on them. At the time that I baked these, I only had regular size muffin cups but they would work even better with minis.
